We had several people reach out to us yesterday about an “asbestos situation” at the Fort Hamilton subway station Friday evening – according to neighbors, there was tape warning of asbestos that surrounded the teller booth and the area immediately surrounding it.

“MTA workers were wandering around, and there was a cop near the Greenwood Ave exit,” one neighbor wrote to us. “No clue what it was all about, but it was a bit disconcerting.”

When we spoke to the MTA, a representative told us that a contractor was fixing the booth floor, which the spokesman noted “contains minute amounts of asbestos, which we are removing as part of the work.”

“The notice that the person saw in the station is required to be posted so that the public can be notified that such work is going on,” the MTA spokesman said.
