Art Camps Create Strong Minds

Would a mind immersed in the arts be more willing to accept imaginary numbers?

Art camps provide creative opportunities to expand linear thinking minds. What does it look like when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts? How do you take solid particles, like sand, and create a solid liquid, like glass? An artistic mind will apply math and science to such questions through a creative lens.

As a bonus, art camps–unlike transcripts–aren’t required on college resumes. Thus, failure IS an option and setting the mind free to really experiment.

“Beautiful Oops” is the title of Alamander Camp’s first week, showing that failure not only is an option but also expected. Looking at mistakes with an artistic eye and a problem-solving mind creates creative and useful solutions. Each week culminates in Open Studio allowing campers to perform and exhibit their creations. This year Alamander is inaugurating their Art and Activism where campers will explore how art and artists have changed the world.

This morning on the way to school my 5 year old peppered me with questions on how early humans made clothes. Textile Arts Center has those answers. They teach kids (and adults) the art and history of textiles.  In addition, they’re bringing back the art of the handmade gift.
