Arrest Made in Broadway Murder in Bushwick

BUSHWICK – A Williamsburg man was arrested and charged in the shooting death of a 20-year old from Bed-Stuy last Friday.

Just before 1:00 pm on Friday, November 24, police responded to a call of a shooting at a check cashing establishment near the Flushing Avenue JMZ stop. Police found 20-year old Shaheem Bernard unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

EMS transported Bernard to Kings County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, said police. At this time, the motive for the shooting is unknown.

At 10:00 pm that night, police arrested Efrain Rivera nearby, at Flushing and Beaver Streets. in connection with the murder. They also recovered a 9mm handgun in the process. Rivera has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
