For weeks, 335 5th Avenue — the artist formerly known as Brooklyn Mercantile — had notices in their newspaper-covered windows announcing the storefront’s new identity as Park Slope’s third Area Kids. Yesterday, a new batch of flyers went up, and these signs got specific. Apparently, the place is going to be an Area Kids, but it’s not going to be just any Area Kids. According to the latest update, the store is going to be an Area Kicks and Cuts — like Area Kids, but specializing in kid’s footwear and little haircuts. The shoe store/salon seems to be the latest project from the Area Kids folks, who are opening not one but two Kicks and Cuts this spring: this one, and another on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens.
