Are Mathieu Eugene And Saundra Thomas Splitting Ditmas Park?

saundra thomas poster in cortelyou window

It was interesting a few months back when posters for mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio were plastered all over Cortelyou, but recently it seems like his signs have given way to those for more local candidates.

We noticed the other day that a large number of Church Avenue storefronts held “Re-elect Councilmember Mathieu Eugene” signs, but Cortelyou Road and Newkirk Plaza were both Saundra Thomas-centric.

So the first question is–as in de Blasio’s case–does a poster in a window reflect a vote, or just a staffer who’s quick with the Scotch tape? Do you think the majority of Church Avenue merchants and patrons are likely to vote Eugene, but Cortelyou and Newkirk to vote Thomas? And why would that be?

Beyond that, we’re also wondering if John Grant and Sylvia Kinard are interested in votes from this part of District 40, or if they’re focusing more on other neighborhoods. Have you seen either of them campaigning in the area?

We’ll be posting an interview with Councilmember Eugene tomorrow, and don’t forget there’s a Candidate Forum 6pm tomorrow night at Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church (331 Hawthorne Street  between Nostrand and New York Avenues)–but as of right now, who’s got your vote for District 40? And, if it’s changed recently, why?
