Another Shooting Near Elijah G. Stroud Campus

PROSPECT HEIGHTS – On May 21, officials sheltered in P.S. 316 (Elijah G. Stroud Elementary School) and M.S. 353 because of a gun-related incident. That evening, third graders were performing The Wiz at a special evening musical. Less than two weeks later, and another shooting incident has occurred – this past Saturday, June 1, students were outside in the school’s playground at a school carnival.

This time, students were outdoors during a school carnival.

The shooting occurred at 729 Franklin Ave., between Park Place and Sterling Place, around 2:00 pm., according to police. NYPD spoke to two people possibly connected to the shooting which ended with emergency services taking a 21-year-old to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The incident marks the school’s third special event interrupted because of a nearby shooting or shots-fired. In March, parents and students were not allowed to leave the facility during a camp fair.  And on May 21, students were instructed to prolong their stage performance. The last shelter in came five days after Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo celebrated the grand opening of the adjoining playground.
