Another Reason Why We Love South Slope
South Slope, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways.
I was walking down 5th Avenue with my son around 2:45pm. Suddenly, an unexpected gust of wind happened to catch the birthday crown his teachers made for him in playgroup, and blew it down the street. He was so upset, and I was almost certain we wouldn’t be able to get across the street in time to catch it.
While we were waiting for the light at 16th Street to change, a man races through traffic in the middle of 5th Avenue, rescues the crown, and runs down the sidewalk to return it to my son.
I thanked him profusely, he wished the kiddo a happy birthday, and was off. I never even had a chance to ask him his name.
Classic superhero.
Yes, it was just a construction paper crown, but mysterious stranger from 5th Avenue, you made my son’s day. Thank you.
