Another Body Found Near Calvert Vaux Park: Police Try To ID Woman By Tattoo
Police are turning to the public for help in identifying a woman found dead near Calvert Vaux Park with a distinctive leg tattoo — the third gruesome discovery near the Gravesend park this year.
The unidentified woman was found unconscious and unresponsive near the roadway on Shore Parkway and 26th Avenue on March 22, at 6:25pm, cops said. EMS responded and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The woman was found less than 10 days before three teenagers came across a spinal cord and ribcage in a brush near the park’s beach. Police canvased the area and later found a leg bone and an elbow dangling from a tree. Police believe the body parts belong to the same person as a badly decomposed hand found washed up on the beach by birdwatchers in January.
The woman discovered on March 22 is believed to be between 25 and 45 years old, according to the NYPD. Police have shared a photo of the her tattoo. The left portion of the photo shows the tattoo as it appears on her right leg. The right portion of the photo shows a tattoo artist’s rendering of how the actual tattoo may have appeared originally. Investigators believe the name written within the heart and rose is “Monique.”
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
