Animation Block Party Returns For 4 Days Of Animated Fun

GOWANUS/FORT GREENE – The 15th annual Animation Block Party, the East Coast’s largest animation festival, returns for four days to showcase an eclectic selection of professional, independent, and student animated films.

The fun kicks off on Thursday, July 26 at 8pm with a free opening night party at Littlefield (635 Sackett Street) in Gowanus. The event will feature an exclusive screening of a Pingu the Penguin episode, new shows from DreamWorksTV, new t-shirts by Brooklyn Cloth, My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream, and Picture This!, a live animated comedy show where animators and cartoonists draw comedians and their jokes live onstage.

From Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29 head over to BAM (30 Lafayette Avenue) for a variety of animation programs featuring award-winning, experimental, international, and kid-friendly films. There will also be a program highlighting work by some of the world’s top Female Animators (Saturday at 7pm) as well as a special 30th anniversary screening of the anime, cyberpunk classic Akira (Saturday at 9pm).

Other highlights of the festival include screenings of Mad Monster Party (Friday at 2pm) by stop-motion masters Rankin-Bass and Pokemon V: Heroes (Saturday at 4:30pm), as well as the NYC premiere of MFKZ (Friday at 9pm).
