Amazon Fresh Expands Grocery Delivery Service To Kensington & Windsor Terrace

Amazon Fresh Expands Grocery Delivery Service To Kensington & Windsor Terrace

Many thanks to neighbor Kyle Borut for passing along this photo to us! After he spotted this Amazon Fresh van on Cortelyou, we searched the company’s website to see if our neighborhood has been added to their delivery coverage – and guess what? It has.

When Amazon first rolled out its grocery delivery service in October, it only covered Park Slope, but company officials said they’d be expanding to other parts of Brooklyn. The service delivers based on zip code, and it looks like 11218 (which covers Kensington and parts of Windsor Terrace, Ditmas Park, and Prospect Park South) has been added.

So, what does this mean? The service that delivers same-day groceries from local stores (though not Kensington-local, as we didn’t see any of our  neighborhood stores listed) is available only to Amazon Prime customers – which costs $99 a year. But, heads up, if you want to continue to have this delivery service, you’re gonna have to shell out $299 for membership next year.

You can see the full list of what’s offered here, including six cupcakes from Brooklyn Cupcake for $15, four rolls from Greenwood Heights business Baked in Brooklyn for $2.89, six live Maine lobsters for $90, a six-pack of Brooklyn Lager for $11.49, and so on.

Do you think you’ll use Amazon Fresh, or are you happy going to our local grocery stores?

From Park Slope’s experience, we’ve learned not everyone has been happy with the delivery service, and Gothamist wrote about the cumbersome amount of packaging that arrived with their order. So, if you end up using it, let us know how it goes!
