Afternoon Bite: Chicken Kebob From Amira’s
If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying take-our or delivery option for a night when you don’t feel like cooking, Amira’s (426A 7th Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets), the Mediterranean restaurant that replaced Anthony’s this past fall, is a great option.
Our piping hot order arrived in a little over 30 minutes, and the woman who delivered the meal was honestly one of the friendliest delivery people we’ve encountered here in the Slope. Things were looking good.
The chicken kebob ($15), marinated in Amira’s combination of house spices, and served over rice with a side of sweet tomato sauce, was delicious.
Placing the kebob inside some of the restaurant’s fresh and fluffy pita bread, which was also included in the meal, made the dish all the more amazing. Seriously, this bread was to die for. We’re talking absolute food ecstasy.
Although not necessary since the order included rice, we tried a side of couscous ($3), and it was one of our better decisions. Perfectly light, and bursting with raisins, carrots, peppers, and nuts, the couscous ended up taking over as the preferred kebob companion inside our pita. The rice was good, but the couscous was better.
As an added bonus for those of you missing Anthony’s, Amira’s is still serving the same brick over pizza that we came to know and love in the space’s previous incarnation. So not only can you score some delightful Mediterranean cuisine, those tasty Anthony’s pies are still satisfying 7th Avenue appetites. It’s definitely a winning combination in our book.
Amira’s hours are Sunday through Thursday 12-10pm, and Friday through Saturday 12-11pm. Credit cards are accepted, and delivery is available by calling 718-369-8315, or ordering online via GrubHub or Seamless.
