Admitting To Cops He Concocted Story, Teen Recants Claim He Was Groped In Prospect Park
A boy falsely claimed he was groped in Prospect Park — all to avoid getting in trouble with his parents for coming home late.
The Daily News reported the 13-year-old told cops he was “attacked by a pervert” and escaped after being groped by a 40-year-old man at 6pm on July 4. The boy said he was leaving a bathroom when a man approached him near Center and East Drives.
While being reinterviewed by detectives, the teen confessed his story was fabricated. Officials announced the recantation yesterday.
On Wednesday, The Daily News reported the story before learning about the boy’s false claims, writing “[t]he attack took place as scores of people enjoyed Independence Day at the 585-acre green space, cops said.”
As of now, the teen is not expected to face any criminal charges for filing a false report with the police.
