A Paw-sitively Great Time At Freddy’s 4th Annual Doggy Fashion Show
South Slope was filled with four-legged fashionistas Saturday evening, glamming it up for the fourth annual Doggy Fashion Show at Freddy’s Bar and Backroom at 627 Fifth Avenue.
A part of the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID’s South Slope Summer Strolls multi-block party that took place between 12th to 18th Streets, stylish pooches came out in their canine couture to strut down the runway.
The crowd went wild for the 43 polished pups who dressed in playful outfits including a skater dude, a hula dancer, superheroes, sports stars, a hot dog, the Pope, Run DMC, Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother, and others who opted for more refined attire such as tuxedos, pearls, pompoms, tutus, and tiny sunglasses.
The Freddy’s team gave away several prizes for categories including Best Puppy, Best Dressed, and Miss Congeniality. The first prize “Xena” trophy went to Moose, a year-and-a-half-old Golden Doodle dressed in surgical scrubs. Moose hails from South Slope with his owner, Kate Getzewich, whose job as an emergency room doctor inspired Moose’s wardrobe choice for the show.
The doggy fashion show was inspired by Xena, the pit-bull mix whom Freddy’s co-owner Donald O’Finn rescued and who served as a mascot for the watering hole for twenty years. The coveted first prize trophy is named in her honor.
Proceeds from the beer sales at Freddy’s Bar during the fashion show and after-party were donated to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue located at 153 East 3rd Street (between Fort Hamilton Parkway & Caton Avenue) in Windsor Terrace.
