A Look At The New Building Coming To 5th Avenue & 17th Street
A rendering for the new apartment building coming to the corner of 5th Avenue and 17th Street has been posted to the construction fencing around the site, where work began last week.
The seven-story, 17-unit building is going up at 236 17th Street, in the parking lot that used to belong to the now-defunct women’s department store Aaron’s. It will be, predictably, a very modern glass-and-brick affair, with balconies overlooking both 5th Avenue and 17th Street.
New York YIMBY, which first posted the rendering yesterday, guesses that based on the square-footage of the apartments as described in the permits, we’re probably looking at condos here.
The signage notes the owner is Prospect Construction Corp., though permits have indicated the developer is Nick Malafis, who has also worked on recently completed residential buildings at 683 4th Avenue and 433 3rd Avenue.
As of this morning, workers are still just digging up the lot, preparing for the foundation. According to the sign, the anticipated date of completion is in the fall of 2016.
