A Look At 501 Union, A New Event Space In Gowanus
A new spot for weddings and more, 501 Union is open, as Brownstoner noticed recently. JMB Wedding Photography took some photos of the 6,300-square-foot space at an open house last week, which is not only available for a couple’s big day, but for live performances, film screenings, photo and video shoots, and more.
In addition, they’ll introduce 501 Social this fall, which “will provide a private, members-only gathering space for the communities of downtown Brooklyn. The social club will be a refined refuge for entertaining, exclusive events, artistic collaboration, and a private supper club.” Open houses for 501 Social are scheduled for September.
Gowanus Art + Production has hosted a live art performance series here this month, with the last one tomorrow, Saturday, July 27 at 8pm. It features The Motor Room with Lea Fulton, and tickets ($12-15) are available online.
Located across the street from The Green Building, which is run by the same folks and which is already a very popular venue for weddings (in the next year, there are just six Saturdays that are not currently booked), 501 Union seems prepped to pick up some of the overflow demand from there — one couple even booked the space based solely on sketches, before construction began.
So, has anyone checked it out yet? If so, what do you think — is this the next big spot for Brooklyn weddings?
