88th Precinct Officers Involved In Shooting With Robbery Suspect In Bed-Stuy
Three plainclothes 88th Precinct officers were involved in a shooting with a 20-year-old man who allegedly attempted to rob one of them at the intersection of Monroe Street and Bedford Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant last night (Sunday, November 8) at around 6:40pm. The suspect was hit in the right arm and body and taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is in stable condition, but also under arrest.
A second suspect, 16, was also arrested and police are searching for a third suspect.
Police say the incident occurred during a plainclothes investigation of a past robbery in the area, which is in the 79th Precinct’s jurisdiction, but which the 88th Precinct officers were assisting.
According to the police, “three male suspects approached one of the detectives and one of the male suspects displayed a firearm at the detective and demanded his property. The detective then discharged his service firearm, striking the armed suspect, a 20-year-old male, in the right arm and torso.”
The detective was treated at Methodist Hospital for tinnitus, a ringing in the ears.
The suspect’s gun — a BB gun — was recovered and the investigation is ongoing.
