This fourth week of July (July 20-26) looked more like the second week (July 6-12) in terms of more shootings and fewer larcenies (both petit and grand).

Compared to the third week (July 13 to 19), there were also zero robberies and housing incidents (good news!) but a rise in sex crimes and shootings, up by one incident each.

In general, crime is basically in the same general wheelhouse as this time one month ago, in June, in terms of overall crime stats.

Reported crime fell in the following categories:

  • robberies (from 2 to 0)
  • housing (from 2 to 0)
  • petit larceny (from 13 to 7)
  • misdemeanor assault (from 15 to 8)

Meanwhile, crime jumped in these categories:

  • burglary (from 2 to 6)
  • grand larceny (from 4 to 9)
  • auto theft (from 0 from 1)
  • misdemeanor sex crimes (from 1 to 2)
  • shootings (from 0 to 1, leaving 2 people injured)

And these stayed the same:

  • felony assault (5 reports)

Let us — and the local police — know if you hear of or witness a crime in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The NYPD’s National Night Out festival will be held TONIGHT, August 4 at Fort Greene Park (DeKalb Avenue and Washington Park) from 1-7pm AND at the Walt Whitman Houses at 117 North Oxford Walk from 5-8:30pm.

The next 88th Precinct Community Council meeting will be in SEPTEMBER.

CompStat reports are produced by the New York Police Department on a weekly basis. We publish the week’s statistics for the 88th Precinct reports every week. The 88th Precinct is the police command that oversees Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
