85th Street Will Soon Sprout Two New Residential Buildings
There’s some bustle happening on the block of 85th Street between 20th and 21st Avenues.
The site on 85th Street where two buildings were demolished in early 2015 will soon be the location of six spacious, 1,200 square foot, full-floor residential units housed within two newly constructed buildings.
The previous buildings at the location (numbers 2050 and 2054 85th Street) were both two-story, single-family homes, built in 1920 on a 6,000 square foot property.
The permit for the new development was approved in April, and issued to general contractor Elizabeth McDonald of Avo Construction LLC in TriBeCa. Avo Construction is known for their modern aesthetic and high-end interior decorations. Christine Lebron of Avo Construction told Bensonhurt Bean that “we love the neighborhood!” They hope to work on more Bensonhurst locations in the future.
The new three-story, brick faced buildings are being developed by 2050-2054 85th Street LLC, apparently formed for this purpose and affiliated with Schneider Associates of New Jersey.
Although there will be no balconies or significant outdoor space, the development will be a half mile away from Bath Beach Park. The tree-lined park is equipped with a playground, handball court (in traditional Brooklyn fashion), and a baseball field.
Brooklyn architecture firm Design Studio Associates is also involved in the project. They are the architects of record for a proposed six-unit residential development in Kensington, presumed to be a condominium.
According to Yimby, it is anticipated that the new buildings on 85th Street will also house condominium units, each with its own off-street parking space. Since the D train station is virtually around the corner, residents will have a choice of convenient transportation methods – an urban luxury if there ever was one.
