8 Things To Do In Park Slope This Weekend
From building gingerbread houses to trying not to shoot your eye out, from making music on bikes to dancing with the Titanic, there are a lot of great events in the are this weekend — and since the weather looks like it will be unseasonably warm, get out there and enjoy some of them!
A Christmas Story
Where: BAM Rose Cinemas, 651 Fulton Street
When: Saturday, December 21, 11am
What: Share this perennial holiday favorite with the next generation of movie fans (just note that it’s rated PG).
How much: $9 general admission, $8 cinema club members, $7 children 12 and under
Presents To The Animals
When: Saturday, December 21 & Sunday, December 22, 11am & 3;30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue
What: We can’t think of anything more adorable and in the holiday spirit than watching animals at the Prospect Park Zoo open presents! Stop by on either/both days to watch meerkats tear open gifts at 11am, and to watch mongooses try to adorably navigate the wrapping paper at 3:30pm.
How much: Adults $8, children (3–12) $5, seniors (65+) $6, children under 3 free
See Santa!
When: Saturday, December 21
Where: Two locations
What: The free Downtown Brooklyn Holiday Trolley will whisk families around to six different spots, with a stop in our area at Flatbush Ave and 4th Ave, with Santa along for the ride, from 12-6pm. Because he’s magic, he’ll also be at Du Jour Bakery (365 5th Avenue) for those last minute holiday wishes from 3:30-5pm, thanks to the 5th Avenue BID.

Make Music Winter: Blink
When: Saturday, December 20, 4:30pm
Where: Meet at Grand Army Plaza
What: Grab your bike and join a musical parade as it rolls through Prospect Park, following a score transmitted from the lead bike via a special helmet pre-programmed with lights that cue bicycle bells of different pitches.
How much: Free!
A Christmas Carol
When: Saturday, December 21 & Sunday, December 22, 8pm
Where: Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue
What: Get over the desire to say “bah humbug” by watching the classic 1951 film based on the beloved Charles Dickens tale.
How much: $5
Party Like It’s 1999: Titanic December Edition
When: Saturday, December 21, 10pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: They promise to celebrate the film, which came out on December 21, 1997, at this dance party, but swear they won’t play that Celine Dion song.
How much: Free!
Gingerbread Making Party
When: Sunday, December 22, 10am, 12pm & 2pm
Where: Hootenanny Art House, 426 15th Street
What: Possibly the most delicious event of the year, as The Farm on Adderley presents its third annual gingerbread house making parties. Kids of all ages are invited to build a pre-fab, all-natural gingerbread house and make it fancy with all kinds of good-for-you treats (no corn-syrup or artificially colored candy, only dried fruit and natural candy).

Creaghead & Company

Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: We have Caroline Creaghead to thank for some of the best Park Slope comedy. She’s helped create some truly hilarious shows working as a talent booker for Pretty Good Friends and producer of The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, and recently she’s taken over weekly Sunday comedy shows at here with her own endeavor, featuring a variety of terrific special guests.
