8 Things To Do In Park Slope This Weekend

Great American Book Drive at the Central Library
When: Saturday, October 5, 10am-3pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Drop off your used books at the library now through Saturday, when there will be a $1 book sale, live music, and crafts for kids.
How much: Free!

Generation T Tee Party
When: Saturday, October 5, 1pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 Sixth Avenue
What: Author and Park Slope neighbor Megan Nicolay will teach tweens designs from her books Generation T and Generation T: Beyond Fashion. Bring a T-shirt for refashioning; scissors and other tools will be provided, and books will be available for sale.

Shine and the Moonbeams
When: Saturday, October 5, 2pm
Where: BAMcafe at the Peter Jay Sharp Building
What: Dance, sway, and just get into the groove as the soulful family band led by singer-songwriter Shawana Kemp and songwriter-guitarist Jon Heagle plays songs that capture the sweetness, uncertainty, and simplicity of youth.

Park Slope Parents Clothing Swap
When: Saturday, October 5, 4-6pm
Where: Church of Gethsemane, 1012 8th Avenue
What: Bring gently used baby, toddler, and big kid clothing, costumes, baby gear, books, and maternity items, and swap them for items that other families brought with them.
How much: $5 for PSP members, $10 for non-members

Jan Pacifico Pottery: Opening Reception
When: Saturday, October 5, 7-9pm
Where: Slope Wellness, 816 8th Avenue
What: Meet artist Jan Pacifico of New Mexico and see her pottery on display as she celebrates 50 years of creating functional stoneware and crystal-glazed porcelain. Light fare and refreshments will be served.

’90s Hip-Hop and R&B Sing-Along
When: Saturday, October 5, 10:30pm (doors 10:15pm)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Join the singalong crowd for two hours of the best ’90s hip-hop and R&B music videos (may we suggest This Is How We Do It, shown above) with all the lyrics on the big screen. Wear neon or flannel for the ’90s costume contest, show off your moves in the dance-off, and enjoy prizes including free drinks and tickets to upcoming shows.

Tall Tales with Tammy Hall
When: Sunday, October 6, 2 & 3pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: The storytelling brings enchanting tales from the Lefferts family and around the world in this series that runs each Sunday through October 27.

Concerts on the Slope Present: Shattered Glass
When: Sunday, October 6, 3pm
Where: St. John’s Episcopal Church, 139 St Johns Place
What: Sit back and listen in a beautiful setting as the conductor-less string ensemble performs four pieces.
