70th Precinct Officer Injured & Hospitalized After Riding Atop Police Car And Falling From Hood

Updated 8:18pm: The officer who was driving the police cruiser that another officer clung to, and then fell from, Monday morning has been suspended, according to the NYPD. He will remain suspended during the internal investigation, the NYPD told us.

Original post: An NYPD officer from the 70th Precinct was sent to the hospital with head injuries yesterday after he fell off the hood of a police cruiser on Seton Place, just before Parkville Avenue – right by the 70th Precinct headquarters, according to the NYPD and published reports.

JPUpdates and Eyewitness News published the above video of the incident last night, and the footage shows the officer on the hood of the car that is traveling down Seton Place. The cruiser stops just before the Parkville Avenue intersection, when the officer tumbles off the hood.

An NYPD spokesman told us today that the officer struck his head and is listed in stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center. The spokesman said they do not know why the officer was riding atop the car, and Eyewitness News reported police have launched an internal investigation.

We’ve also reached out to the 70th Precinct for more information.
