66th Precinct Plainclothes Teams Catch Kensington Perps
Planning always helps, Commander Michael Deddo insists.
To counteract a rash of Kensington burglaries, Sgt. Eddie Wheeler, head of the 66th Precinct’s AntiCrime Unit’s Day Team, developed a plan that within 48 hours had netted six kids working in teams of three who police think regularly burgled in our area.
Then on June 18, the Night Team, led by Sgt. Wong, and working well past its 4am quitting time, arrested two 20-year-old men not long after they’d robbed a 62-year-old man at 3:30am as he was walking from his car to his house. The cops recovered the victim’s cell phone, wallet, and money, a total value of $960, and returned them to him.
The precinct thinks these arrests “will close out the robbery pattern” in Kensington, but confirmation awaits further investigation.
