Here’s a summer event to look forward to.  Next Tuesday, August 4, the 66th Precinct will host its annual National Night Out Against Crime at its station house (5822 16th Avenue, near the corner of 60th Street) from 6-9pm.

The food, games, rides, a petting zoo, and giveaways — all of which are free — should encourage you to drop by and get acquainted with the precinct’s commander, Captain Kenneth M. Quick, the Community Affairs officers (who you can spot in their short-sleeved bright blue shirts) and all the rest of the men and women officers who make the precinct tick. See if you can spot the plainclothes cops and the anti-terrorism squad.  Expect politicians galore eager to meet and great you, as well as members of Community Board 12 and the Precinct Community Council staff and local civilian patrol organizations.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out was first held in 1984 to promote anti-crime efforts and police programs in US and Canadian communities.  Today it is celebrated in 16,124 communities worldwide, in 50 states, US territories, military bases and Canadian cities as a way to strengthen community-police relations.
