6 Places To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day In South Slope
st patrick's day

St. Patrick’s Day is on Tuesday, March 17, but you can get a head start on the celebration this weekend in the neighborhood. The annual parade will be marching through on Sunday, and there are plenty of places to eat, dance, and yes, mostly drink, before and after. Here’s a look at some of the things going on in the area:

Showcase: Irish & Irish-American Beers, Ciders, And Spirits
When: Friday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 17
Where: The Owl Farm, 297 9th Street
What: Curious about what Irish beers there are besides Guinness? Get down here, where they’ll have a fun range of options, including a gravity cask of Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout they’ll be tapping on Sunday.

Pour Your Own Pint
When: Friday, March 13, 9pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue
What: You know the care and technique that goes into pouring the perfect pint of Guinness, right? But can you actually do it? Learn how tonight, and drink a bit!

Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Parade
When: Sunday, March 15, 1pm
Where: The route starts at 15th St and Prospect Park West, travels down 15th St to 7th Ave, along 7th Ave to Garfield Pl, up Garfield Pl to PPW, and then back along that to 15th St.
What: The 40th annual parade celebrates all that is Irish, as bands, bag pipes, step dancers, and more take to the streets. Prior to the parade’s start, a re-dedication ceremony to 9/11 heroes and victims will take place in Bartel-Pritchard Square at 12:45pm.

Days Of A Pint & A Shot Deal
When: Sunday, March 15 through Thursday, March 19, all day
Where: Greenwood Park, 555 7th Avenue
What: Looking for a place to celebrate after the parade — or even after St. Patrick’s Day itself? Swing by Greenwood Park for a pint of Brooklyn Brewery’s Dry Irish Stout and a shot of Jameson for just $8.

A Drink, A Shot, A Coddle
When: Tuesday, March 17, all day
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue
What: They’ll be tapping a keg of Smithwicks Irish Ale and making a pot of Dublin Coddle — which is basically a stew with, you guessed it, potatoes. They’re offering an $8 Jameson shot/Smithwicks pint from open to closing, and at 8pm they’ll crack open the steaming crockpot and serve up a Smithwicks pint/Jameson shot/bowl of Coddle for $12.

Drink Up! Guinness & Jameson Deal
When: Tuesday, March 17, all day
Where: South, 629 5th Avenue
What: Sip the popular Irish exports all day long on the cheap — they’ll be pouring a big ol’ 20oz Guinness with a shot of Jameson for $8.
