5 Winter Projects For Snow-Crazed Kids

5 Winter Projects For Snow-Crazed Kids

BY CHRISTINE BUSH

Since temperatures dropped around the city, the “when is it going to snow” question has been a big topic of conversation in our house. If your kids are as snow crazed as mine, you might need a few winter projects to hold them off until Mother Nature decides to blanket NYC with a few inches of powder.

We’ve pulled together 5 activities that are made with readily available household ingredients. Best of all, they’re exploding with snow and ice themes that will surely help curb the kid’s winter weather longings.

Snow Dough

If you’ve never tried it before, watching what happens to a bar of Ivory soap in the microwave is wickedly cool. By adding ripped up toilet paper and water, Modern Mommyhood took it a step further and came up with a great snow dough project that will have the kids occupied for hours.

Baking Soda Snow

No Ivory soap to make fake snow? Try mixing 2 cups of baking soda with 1/2 cup of conditioner. Not only does the combination give you a snowlike texture, it’s cool to the touch! Store in an airtight container, and your snow will keep for several weeks.

Growing Ice

Does your little Frozen fan dream of making ice grow with the touch of their hand? While we can’t exactly channel Elsa’s powers, this project from Teach Preschool is the next best thing. Be sure to keep lots of water bottles on hand – the kids will definitely want a repeat performance (trust us).
