5 Dilemmas Brooklyn Parents Face In Winter

Raising a child in Brooklyn is not for the faint of heart. This is especially true during the winter months, when things like flesh burning radiators, cabin fever, and icy temperatures take hold of the five boroughs – bringing many parents to their breaking point.

While we can’t make spring magically appear, we can inject some humor into our frozen gray lives. How about a little game of “Would You Rather?”

Below you’ll find 5 dilemmas that Brooklyn parents face during the winter. We’ve shared our thoughts, but what do you think is the lesser of the two evils?

  1. Walk to school in temperatures so cold that the snot freezes to your face -OR- lose a prime alternate side parking spot?
The kids can put their arms down when they get to school.
  2. Stay cooped up in your tiny apartment -OR- battle Brooklyn Children’s Museum on a Sunday?
At home you can hide in the bathroom with chocolate and wine.
  3. Let your 2-year-old walk down the sidewalk -OR- fight to push your stroller through mounds of neglected sidewalk snow?
Either way, you’re looking at a good 2 hour commute to the grocery store around the corner.
  4. Crawl out of your warm bed to pack a healthy, artisanal, locally-sourced lunch -OR- let the kids eat at school and cozy up for an extra 15 minutes.
An Avi’s Burger-ito every now and then never hurt anybody.
  5. Force your stubborn teen to wear a coat -OR- avoid World War III and let them feign warmth in the name of cool.
The cold never bothered them anyway.
