5 Bars Where You Can Watch March Madness In South Slope
march madness

Looking for a bar in the area that’s showing NCAA basketball tournament games, which start up Thursday at noon? We’ve rounded up some of the spots in the neighborhood that are open early enough to catch some of the day games, and run down the tips about what you’ll find to drink and eat there — sorry though, we can’t help you with your brackets.

American Cheez
444 7th Avenue, at 15th Street
They’ll be showing games, but not ones airing on TruTV (it’s not in their cable package), so check the schedule here before you head in when they open at noon. And then order a beer and enjoy your free pizza — you can get a free pie with every drink here.

The Dram Shop
339 9th Street, between 5th & 6th Avenues
They’ll be showing the games and have several screens, so can have multiple games on at a time. The downside is they open at 3pm on weekdays (noon on weekends), so you won’t catch the first few games here, but if your team loses, you can drown your sorrows in one of the best burgers in the neighborhood.

Greenwood Park
555 7th Avenue, at 19th Street
They open at noon, so you can pull up a stool and enjoy the madness at the bar of the beer hall, where they’ll be screening games and running a special during every one: 50 cent wings and $13 pitchers of Naragansett!

The Monro Pub
481 5th Avenue, between 11th & 12th Streets
They open at 2pm and will be showing games — unless there’s a Liverpool game on, because that will take precedent at this British pub, of course — and if it’s still as cold as it is today, we recommend their namesake hot toddy.

Supercollider
609 4th Avenue, between 17th & 18th Streets
Catch games up on their big screen! Plus, since they open early (7am), you can start out with a cappuccino and move onto a cocktail later, and if you’re supposed to be working and not watching basketball, they’ve got free wifi.
