Celebrate 3rd Anniversary Of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Environmental Education Center With A Nature Walk

BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK – The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is celebrating the third anniversary of its Environmental Education Center this Sunday with a series of free environmentally-themed activities, including a guided nature walk.

The Environmental Education Center will be open special hours on Sunday, September 16, offering access to its interactive exhibits as well as family-friendly programs including puppet shows featuring nocturnal animals, public feeding of the Center’s animals (turtles, seahorses, and monarch caterpillars), and arts & craft activities.

Participants of the guided nature walk will receive a specially-curated Cove Kit, filled with an activity booklet, crayons, nature field guides, binoculars, and other items to help kids explore and discover.

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Environmental Education Center welcomes thousands of visitors each year and provides innovative programming about the Park’s ecology, history, and sustainable design. Programs for student groups include “Seining the River Wild,” a program that allows students to examine East River estuary creatures up close, and the “Sustainable Landscapes” program which teaches kids hows to be urban park planners while introducing them to the Park’s sustainable features.

During the Center’s open hours, the public gets the chance to participate in hands-on activities with themes focusing on sustainability, pollination, birds, and the waterfront. The Center’s current estuary theme shows participants how to classify fish living in the East River, identify parts of a seahorse, and make a jellyfish out of a paper plate.

“The Environmental Education Center has been a great resource for visitors,” Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Executive Director, Nancy Webster, said in a statement. “With its rotating exhibits, new displays, and original programming, you learn more about the Park and its natural environment with every visit.”
