Community arts center Spoke the Hub is holding general scholarship auditions for their dance program this Friday, September 7th, from 4:30 to 6:30.
They’re looking for young dancers with or without experience, aspiring or accomplished, for both general study (all levels) and their Young Artists Program (more advanced students). From their website:
Spoke the Hub (STH) is offering partial scholarships and work/study opportunities to young dancers, ages 8 to 16 years, with or without previous dance experience, based on financial need and merit. Children of color are particularly encouraged to apply. The audition will take the form of a modern dance class and will include a warm-up, improvisation, and combinations across the floor. (Students do not need to prepare any material in advance). Dance scholarships will be awarded for classes in Modern Dance Technique, Ballet, Improvisation/Choreography/Performance, and others to be announced. Teenagers may also be considered for work/study internships in our office.
Black swans, white swans, and modern swans need to sign up for the audition (TK), and all families need to bring a copy of their most recent tax return on Friday. You can download the application — which includes a short essay question to be answered by the dancer in addition to the basic name/age/date stats — here.
The fall term runs for 18 weeks, from Monday, September 10th to February 3rd, 2013. Assuming students are on track, though, scholarships are renewable through June 2013.
