Drinkers and Germanophiles have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Die Koelner Beirhalle (84 St. Mark’s Place near 4th Ave) since January, but the grand reveal’s been endlessly delayed due to “beer-busting bureaucracy”  from the Department of Buildings.

No more. The era of beer-busting is apparently over, because Die Koelner Beirhalle is set to open Wednesday. From their Facebook page:

You’ve waited for it and now the time has finally come!!! We’re opening this Wednesday August 8th! Come celebrate and have a pint with us! It’s on! Thank you for your ongoing support. 🙂

HPS says we can expect “long wooden tables (the place will seat over 200 in total), approximately 30 German beers on tap, and simple German fare.”

While the delay has obvious downsides for the Die Koelner crew — missing a good chunk of outdoor-drinking season, for one — we can’t help but wonder if there’s a hidden bright side. After the Greenwood Park media firestorm, maybe we’re all burnt out on beer garden criticism for the season?

Or maybe not:

“That is a HUGE space for that mostly residential area of Park Slope; if it results in being unable to get sleep because of noise leakage, it’s gonna suck,” wrote one HPS commenter. True! But the real question is: will there be strollers? And perhaps more importantly: will the New York Times care?
