The 2016 Guide To Outdoor Summer Concerts In The Brownstone Belt
The weather is getting better (theoretically, anyway) and that means it’s time to head outside for entertainment. We present to you this handy dandy guide to summer concerts in the Brownstone Belt.
Commodore Barry Park
Commodore Barry Park will play host to the Afropunk 2016 festival on August 27 and 28, rain or shine. The festival will be headlined by Ice Cube and he’ll be joined by many other luminaries including but not limited to: Living Color, Janaelle Monae, George Clinton, Tyler the Creator, TV on the Radio, Ceelo Green, and many more. Prospect Park
We’ve been waiting for this one for a while, folks. There will be a bevy of great bands coming through BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell this summer.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings open up the season on June 8. Jones hails from Bed-Stuy, so the opening will be hometown affair with plenty of soul and funk. And the opening event is free.

Fort Greene Park
The Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival will take place from 3pm to 5pm on July 23 and September 10. It’s been frequented by luminaries from Clinton Hill’s Yasiin Bey (a.k.a. Mos Def) to James Baldwin, and you’d be smart to go, too.
June 9 at 6pm, FREE: Taikoza. Fort Greene Park will also play host to Taikoza, a New York City band who synthesized a new sound heavily influenced by Japanese drums.
