Commodore Barry Park

Commodore Barry Park will play host to the Afropunk 2016 festival on August 27 and 28, rain or shine. The festival will be headlined by Ice Cube and he’ll be joined by many other luminaries including but not limited to: Living Color, Janaelle Monae, George Clinton, Tyler the Creator, TV on the Radio, Ceelo Green, and many more. Tickets start at $45, so click here to get yours.

Prospect Park

We’ve been waiting for this one for a while, folks. There will be a bevy of great bands coming through BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell this summer.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings open up the season on June 8. Jones hails from Bed-Stuy, so the opening will be hometown affair with plenty of soul and funk. And the opening event is free.

Fort Greene Park

The Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival will take place from 3pm to 5pm on July 23 and September 10. It’s been frequented by luminaries from Clinton Hill’s Yasiin Bey (a.k.a. Mos Def) to James Baldwin, and you’d be smart to go, too.

June 9 at 6pm, FREE: Taikoza. Fort Greene Park will also play host to Taikoza, a New York City band who synthesized a new sound heavily influenced by Japanese drums.
