2013 Marathon Banners Arrive On 4th Avenue

Nothing says fall in South Slope like the raising of the marathon banners along 4th Avenue. Although last year’s race was cancelled  after Hurricane Sandy, the ING New York City Marathon is back and scheduled for Sunday, November 3. Keep in mind that this is the morning of daylight savings, so if you don’t want to miss out on the excitement, remember to “fall backward.”

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings earlier this year, racers and spectators should both expect heightened security measures during the race, including more baggage inspection areas, and a larger list of prohibited items. A complete breakdown of security changes can be found on the marathon website.

We’ll keep you updated on street closures and times as the event nears. In the meantime, are you looking forward to the race this year? Are you running? Supporting family members or friends? Let us know if we have any South Slope runners out there so we can cheer our neighbors on to victory.
