Sandy-impacted homeowners are encouraged to apply for a $20,000 repair grant being awarded by the Neighborhood Housing Services of East Flatbush (NHSEF), Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz announced Wednesday.

Fifty Brooklyn homeowners will be selected for the award through a lottery. To be eligible, applications must be submitted by mail or in person at the NHSEF office, at 2806 Church Avenue, by November 13.

Applications and instructions are available here.

There is a preference, though not a requirement, for the grants go to those in Sandy-affected neighborhoods, Cymbrowitz said. Owners of one to four family homes, as well as condos, and co-ops can apply, though they must meet the program’s income requirements. Homeowners enrolled in Build it Back are still eligible for the NHSEF grant.

Homeowners with incomes that exceed the income requirements for the grant are still encouraged to apply, since more grants are expected to be made available in the future, Cymbrowitz said.
