1930 Bedford Ave: A New Way of Living

This is not your parent’s apartment building.

The 38-unit mixed-spaced apartment building at 1930 Bedford Ave. — dubbed The Prospect Quarters — had its second open house Wednesday and according to the building’s realtor Simply Brooklyn, the co-living apartment units are going quickly.

Apartment/room seekers can expect fully-furnished studios and one-bedroom units along with two-, three- and four-bedroom shares in the seven-story structure. Each bedroom comes with a small wall-mounted desk and chair and a freestanding closet. In the apartment Bklyner was shown, three of the four bedrooms had split air conditioning and heating units while the other was vented with central air.

Roommates in the four-bedroom shares won’t be able to break bread together at the bistro style dining table and the one bathroom — with heated floors — could dictate major scheduling conflicts.

But towels, cookware and linens are all included.

“People can move in with just a backpack,” said Daniel Goldshtein of Simply Brooklyn who admitted the sectioned-off units aren’t for everyone.

If tenants want a larger common space they can venture down to the basement where they can take up a game of foosball or a bean bag toss. Or they have a choice of rocking out in the music room equipped with a keyboard, drum set and guitars. Residents will have to sign-up to view flicks on the monster-size screen in the movie room.

Tenants can also find a gym, laundry room and all-gender restrooms in the basement and according to the mixologist on site during the open house, he’ll be back intermittently to shake things up.

So what does all this cost, you ask?

Depending on the size, individual bedrooms will range from $800 – $1300 according to Sam Tabak of Simply Brooklyn. Apartment pricing is as follows:

  • 2 bedroom: $3,000
  • 3 bedroom: $3,700
  • 4 bedroom: $4,100

Potential residents can come with their own crew of roommates but if you’re looking for a stand-alone room, realtors will pair you up with new or existing tenants.

“We want this to be a WeWork for living,” said Tabak over the phone.

Developers 1934 Bedford LLC. ℅ Gutmann Weiss purchased what was two separate building in 2015 and renovated the space into one multi-unit apartment building. There’s retail space on the ground floor and the entire second floor will be dedicated to commercial space. The grounds have 20 indoor parking spaces.

Occupancy is expected to begin October 1.
