18th Avenue’s Annie Sez, Mandee Closing In January, Offering Half Off Everything

The Annie Sez and Mandee retail branches that share a storefront at 6401 18th Avenue will be closing for good on Tuesday, January 31.

Following the expiration of both business’s leases the building owner, Alva Partnership, decided not to sign the businesses again. According to Mandee employee Erica Cruz, “someone bought the building.”

An Annie Sez employee told us that, “the lease ended and they renewed it with someone else.”

Mandee’s had been at the space for more than 10 years, according to Cruz.

Both stores are getting the word out with store-wide signs announcing the sale and that the lease is up, and Annie Sez is also sending out an email blast to subscribers, according to an employee.

Both stores have been something of a free for all since the closure announcement. One employee at Annie Sez noted the lack of care customers are showing now that they know the store is closing, with people not putting items back on the hangers and making a mess of dressing rooms. Another employee guessed that, though the store will be open till the end of January, they’ll be cleaned out within a week.

Building owner Alva Partnership was not immediately available for comment.

Annie Sez has one additional Brooklyn location, at 2067 Coney Island Avenue (which, according to its site, is located in a neighborhood called “Kings Highway”), and Mandee has three other Brooklyn locations, one in Park Slope, one at Atlantic Terminal and one at 2941 Avenue U.

According to PropertyShark, Alva Partnership is based at 6911 18th Avenue and also owns property on Rockaway Boulevard and 93 Street in Queens, and previously owned 201-211 60 Street in Brooklyn.
