18-Year-Old Arrested In Connection To December Death Of 68-Year-Old Woman
EAST FLATBUSH – The NYPD arrested an 18-year-old Brownsville resident over the weekend in connection to a homicide that occurred in East Flatbush last December.
Early in the morning on December 16, 2016, police found 68-year-old Brenda Ramos unconscious and unresponsive in her Kings Highway home between East 94th and East 95th Streets. EMS transported Ramos to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Following an ongoing investigation, Ramos’ death was deemed a homicide in April 2017, according to police.
On Saturday, September 9, police say they arrested 18-year-old Nia Williams in connection to the incident and have charged her with murder and burglary.
Williams, along with two men, broke into Ramos’ apartment and allegedly hit the victim with a hammer in a robbery attempt, according to the New York Daily News. The attack caused Ramos to suffer a fatal heart attack, the paper states.
Joseph Alexander, Ramos’ 40-year-old roommate, was also attacked during the incident, and the group took off with his cell phone, wallet, and a video game console, the Daily News reports.
Alexander called 911 but Ramos could not be saved. A surveillance camera recorded the suspects leaving the building holding a large duffel bag, the Daily News says.
The two male suspects have not yet been arrested. The investigation remains ongoing.
