13-Year-Old Victim Of Last Week’s Shooting On Flatbush Avenue Released From Hospital

Gama Droiville, the 13-year-old who was waiting with his aunt for a bus on Flatbush Avenue and Beverley Road on April 14 when he was shot twice in the head was discharged from Kings County Hospital on Tuesday after just over a week of care in the facility. His release came a few days after E 18th Street’s Kareem Potomont was charged in the shooting.

Councilmember Eugene was on hand as Gama told members of the press he looks forward to returning to “a normal life,” and that he has no worries about returning to the corner where he was shot. He expressed gratitude for the public’s support as well as that of the 70th Precinct, who awarded him with a medal in the hospital. “Special thanks to the NYPD for catching this guy,” Gama told reporters.

“We are all working in the community against gun violence,” said Eugene at the time of Gama’s discharge. ” If we can bring the right influences to youth, then we can make sure they stay on the right path.”

Eduardo Dolphy, the 24-year-old suspected target of the shooting, was treated for a wound to his leg and released last week. Gama underwent more than four hours of surgery to remove a bullet from his head, though doctors are still unsure of whether he will regain sight in his right eye. We’re glad he seems to have such a positive attitude, though, and wish him the best in his continued recovery!
