12 Ways To Celebrate Halloween In South Slope

Halloween is Saturday, October 31, and there are plenty of ways for neighbors to celebrate in the area. From costume contests, spooky dance parties to the big parade, here’s what’s coming up for the spookiest night of the year in South Slope:

Movies @ the Library: “Monsters Inc.”
When: Friday, October 30, 3:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue (at 9th Street)
What: Monsters Incorporated is the largest scare factory in the monster world, and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) is one of its top scarers. Sullivan is a huge, intimidating monster with blue fur, large purple spots and horns. His scare assistant, best friend and roommate is Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), a green, opinionated, feisty little one-eyed monster. Visiting from the human world is Boo (Mary Gibbs), a tiny girl who goes where no human has ever gone before.
How much: Free!

Daytime Trick or Treat Party and Nightime Day Of The Dead Costume Contest
When: Saturday, October 31, 12-7pm for Trick or Treats, followed by Day of the Dead festivities.
Where: Greenwood Park, 555 7th Avenue (between 19th and 20th Streets)
What: Come during the day for free activities for all, including a spooky family dance party! After 7pm, the festivities become a more grown-up fare.
How much: No cover.

6-15 Green Community Garden Haunted Walk
When: Saturday, October 31, 4:00-5:30pm
Where: Starts at 15th Street and 6th Avenue
What: The 6-15 Green Community Garden hosts a haunted walk. Come by to enjoy some fun before the Park Slope Civic Council Halloween Parade!
How much: Free!

Park Slope Civic Council Halloween Parade
When: Saturday, October 31, 6:30pm
Where: Starts at 14th Street and 7th Avenue
What: Walk along with your creepy, crawly, and fantastically costumed neighbors to a party at the conclusion point at the Old Stone House.
How much: Free!

5th Annual Halloween Costume Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 8pm
Where: Brooklyn Pub, 689 6th Avenue (at 20th Street)
What: Join Brooklyn pub for a costume contest and DJ to boot!
How much: $25 for an open bar between 9-11pm.

Dia de los Muertos Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 7pm
Where: La Boulangerie Lopez, 647 5th Avenue (between 18th and 19th Streets)
What: Ofrendas y altares, and food and drink to celebrate Day of the Dead!
How much: No cover.

Excelsior’s Paparazzi Annual Halloween Contest
When: Saturday, October 31, 8pm
Where: Excelsior, 563 5th Avenue (between 15th and 16th Streets)
What: Walk the red carpet for our Annual Halloween Contest. Prizes will be given for the best costumes, and judging begins at midnight. The bar relocated last month, so check out their great new digs.
How much: No cover.

Halloween Bash with DJ Mr. Len
When: Saturday, October 31, 8pm
Where: Freddy’s Bar & Backroom, 627 5th Avenue (between 17th and 18th Streets)
What: Eat, drink, and be scary across two rooms featuring four DJs, drink specials, a kitchen that’s cooking up snacks until 2am, a midnight costume contest, prize pack giveaways, and more.
How much: No cover.

Halloween Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 8pm
Where: South, 629 5th Avenue (between 17th and 18th Streets)
What: Enjoy drink specials all night with some of your favorite scary neighbors while all dressed up — the contest to pick the best costume is at midnight.
How much: No cover.

Halloween Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 9pm-4am
Where: Supercollider, 609 4th Avenue (between 17th and 18th Streets)
What: Promise of music, drinks, movies, and more! Costumes are encouraged and there’s a contest judged by the bartenders featuring “super secret spooky prizes.” Don’t have a costume? Christy Hall will be on hand to zombify your faces. Music provided by Twigg Von Wünderkind, so get ready to dance.
How much: No cover.

Halloween Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 10pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue (between 11th and 12th Streets)
What: Spooky drinks, scary tunes, a costume contest, and — oh yes — a smoke machine. Drink specials and treats all night long, and the backyard will be open until midnight. Oh, and a firebreather!
How much: No cover.

Poltergeist Dance Party
When: Saturday, October 31, 9pm-2am
Where: Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue (at 22nd Street)
What: Mary‘s is haunting the entire bar from floor to ceiling with Poltergeist decor and hosting an 80s inspired Dance Party. They are also proud to be offering their 4th annual Halloween costume contest at midnight. The best dressed male and female win free drinks for the rest of the night.
