There will be no height limits at this Coney Island attraction.

The first-ever New York Road Runners [NYRR] Kids’ Boardwalk Run at the Brooklyn Half Marathon will give kids the exhilarating opportunity to run a mile on the Coney Island Riegelmann Boardwalk.

One thousand youth runners, ages 7-18 — including more than 700 students from NYRR’s Mighty Milers and Young Runners youth running programs — will be competing in the one-mile out-and-back course along one of the most exciting stretches of the Coney Island boardwalk. The race will begin and end near Stillwell Avenue.

The event, which will take place on Saturday, May 16, will be staged in three races, one for each of the following age groups: 7-10 years, 11-13 years, and 14-18 years.

The race will be timed and scored like adult races, and awards will be given to the first three finishers in each age group. Each child will also receive an official NYRR Kids Boardwalk Run souvenir.

Start Times:

11:30am – 14-18 years
12:00pm -11-13 years
12:30pm – 7-10 years

Visit the New York Road Runners website to register in advance for a $10 fee. Race day sign-ups will not be permitted. Check the website for details on bib pick-up. Parents are not allowed on the track, but a spokesperson for NYRR told us that there will be plenty of adults supervising the race.

A family-friendly pre-marathon party will take place at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 2 in the days leading up to the race. More information on the pre-party can be found here.

Runners and their families are encouraged to use the event hashtag #NYRRBoardwalkRun in tweets, Instagrams, and Facebook posts.
