More Than 100 Firefighters Battle Blaze At 2010 Newkirk Avenue

More than 100 firefighters battled a blaze that broke out on the third floor of an apartment building at 2010 Newkirk Avenue, between Ocean Avenue and E. 21st Street, this morning, the FDNY said.

About 106 firefighters from 25 units responded and brought the fire under control at 10:50am, according to the FDNY. No injuries have been reported, but multiple apartments reportedly suffered significant damage.

The fire occurred in a building that Public Advocate Letitia James in October named as one of the most mismanaged buildings in all of New York City, and James placed the building’s owner, Moshe Piller, on her “Worst Landlords Watchlist.”

An FDNY spokesman said they have not determined the cause of the blaze, and that it remains under investigation.
