If cooling off on the outside at the pool isn’t enough for you, then try cooling off from the inside with these chilly treats from local businesses.

We’ve written at-length recently about the arrival of new ice cream shops into the area, such as Greene Grape Scoops (680 Fulton Street) and Walt’s Ice Cream Stand (458 Myrtle Avenue) and we definitely stand by those recommendations (when we’re not drooling just thinking about the classic strawberry and toasted marshmallow flavors, respectively.

But also don’t forget seasonal favorites Fort Grace Ice Cream (229 DeKalb Avenue) — super fresh ice cream and sorbets made in house (flavors include mint chip, salted caramel, and malted vanilla among others; $3 for one scoop or $5 for two) and The Good Batch (936 Fulton Street) — gourmet ice cream sandwiches, anyone?

And for the best bang for your buck, don’t forget Liberty Pizza (482 Myrtle Avenue) and its $1 ice cream scoops!

Italian spots like Belli Osteria (860 Fulton Street) and Scopello (63 Lafayette Avenue) were just this month mentioned by the Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance as spots not to miss. We’d also add Cammareri Bakery & Cafe (1 South Elliot Place at DeKalb Avenue) for its rotating bunch of classically sweet flavors, which often includes fruit sorbets, and which you can buy by the scoop ($3 for two, $4.50 for three) or the pint ($9.95).

Milk Shakes and Smoothies

Then sometimes you just want to slurp the deliciousness with a milkshake, right? It certainly travels better on the subway and bus than a scoop and cone does. For these moments, turn back to Greene Grape Scoops for an ice cream soda float ($6.50) or head over to Red Lantern Bicycles and Cafe (345 Myrtle Avenue) for their rotating daily menu of delicious fruit smoothies ($6), made with your choice of regular, almond or other non-dairy milk.

If you want to balance out the sweetness with some savory or sit-down conversation, never forget Primrose Café (147 Greene Avenue between Waverly and Washington Avenues), which offers coffee, salads, a solid menu, and several rotating gelato and sorbet flavors ($3.50 for one, $5.75 for two), as well as brownie sundaes ($6) and banana splits ($9).

And as an extra, just outside the Clinton Hill border, in Bed-Stuy, is Clementine Bakery (299 Greene Avenue), which we love not just for the friendly staff, but also its vegan and gluten free ice cream and milkshake options.
