Arrests Made in Two Teen Slayings from Past Week

After a spate of violence in Brooklyn over the last week which claimed the lives of four teenagers, police have announced arrests and charges in all four investigations, as well as identifying the victim in the Williamsburg shooting.

Kyon Jackson, 15, was identified yesterday by NYPD after being shot to death in Williamsburg’s Bushwick Houses, where he lived, on Tuesday, July 17.

Police also arrested and charged 19-year old Elijah Harris, of Bed-Stuy, in connection Jackson’s murder. Harris has been charged with murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment for the shooting that killed Jackson and injured a 42-year old man.

Another second arrest was announced as well, this one related to the shooting death of 16-year old Justin Richey in East New York.

Police arrested Ralief Bradford, 24, of East New York, charging him with second-degree murder, gang assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, NYPD confirmed.

Sources told the New York Post that though Richey wasn’t a gang member, his death may have been gang-related, possibly a retaliatory killing or a message to his brother, who is allegedly involved in a gang.

Borough President Adams responded on Twitter to the recent violence, calling for #gunsense after the series of senseless killings:

The two other murders of teenagers to rock Brooklyn in the last week—the shooting of Latrell Brown in Bed-Stuy and the stabbing of Parlay Oller in Brownsville—both led to same-day arrests and charges of suspects.
