Ah, how wonderful it is to have an extra Leap Year day to enjoy our bevy of offerings, including a mocktail mixer, Pat Kiernan, puns, puns, puns, and more. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Tarot Reading, Palmistry and Astrology with The Tarot Society
When: Monday, February 29, 6pm-8pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue (at 7th Street)
What: Join the Members of the Tarot Society on the last Monday of every month for an evening of tarot reading , astrology, palmistry, and other divinatory mediums. Darcey Leonard and her team see fortune telling as a “psychic weather report,” offering the querent a new perspective of the present, and pragmatic advice for the future. Readers read for tips, each reader negotiates their own rates generally from $1 to $2 a minute.
How much: Free admission, sliding scale for readings.

Feel the Bernefit: A Benefit for Bernie Sanders
When: Monday, February 29, 9:30pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street and 5th Avenue
What: A night of comedy to raise money to support the Bernie Sanders Presidential Campaign. All proceeds go directly to Bernie Sanders. With Phoebe Robinson, Sasheer Zamata, Michelle Collins, Chase and Rose, Lauren Adams, Michael Cruz Kayne, and Cathryn Mudon.
How Much: $10, tickets available in advance. $1w at the door. 21 and over. This event will be mixed seated/standing. Arrive early for best seat selection.

Punderdome 3000
When: Tuesday, March 1, 7:00pm (door), 8:00pm (show)
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues)
What: Punderdome® is New York City’s wild & crazy monthly pun competition created and hosted by comedian Jo Firestone and her “Rodney Dangerfield impersonator” alleged dad, Fred. Part of New York’s comedy landscape since 2011, the Punderdome® has been a regular fixture at Littlefield since 2012. The first 18 individuals/duos to sign-up at the door have a chance to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making. Pun-masters are determined by the “Human Clap-O-Meter” who “accurately and scientifically” assesses levels of audience applause. “Mystery Box” prizes are awarded to the top two competitors. Warning for the faint of heart: the ’Dome is THE spectator sport, it gets loud – decide to attend at your own risk!
How much: $8-$10, available at the door.

Slavic Soul Party
When: Tuesday, March 1, 9:00pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue.
What: If you’re looking for “fiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops,” don’t miss Slavic Soul Party, hitting the Barbes stage on Tuesday night. 7pm show by Sebastian Cruz.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Idra Novey and Garth Greenwell
When: Tuesday, March 1, 7:00pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue, between Garfield Place and Carroll Street
What: Idra Novey (Ways to Disappear) and Garth Greenwell (What Belongs to You) read from and discuss their debut novels.
How much: Free.

Trivworks Presents: Pat Kiernan’s 3rd Annual Red Carpet Trivia Night, A Celebration of Pop Culture’s Greatest Award Winners
When: Wednesday, March 2, Doors: 7:00pm, Show: 7:30pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues)
What: Awards season is in full swing, and corporate trivia party professionals TrivWorks are collaborating once again with NY1 morning news anchor Pat Kiernan to produce the ultimate awards-themed pop culture trivia contest! The largest trivia night in all of New York City, beloved media personality and former VH1 World Series of Pop Culture host Kiernan returns to The Bell House to test your knowledge of the greatest award winners in film, television, music, theater and more, as well as unforgettable events from awards shows themselves! A team trivia contest, all attendees will enjoy multiple rounds of full-room trivia, as well as be entered into a raffle to go onstage for 1-on-1 trivia with Pat – with the chance to win great theme-appropriate prizes such as shows, concerts, events, food and much, much more! A high-stakes “showdown” finale will determine the overall winners – the perfect way to cap off the awards season!

J Train
When: Thursday, March 3. Doors: 6:30pm / Show: 7pm
Where: ShapeShifter Lab, 18 Whitwell Place (between 1st and Carroll Streets)
What: JTrain is a unique blend of jazz-infused funk, r&b, and hard hitting riff rock. Their influences include old school soul, jazz fusion, and 90s alternative rock.
How much: $10.

CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree
When: Thursday, March 3, 8pm-10:30pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Highfalutin country…a convivial blur of expert fiddlers, plucky pluckers, & amateur crooners.

Brooklyn Free Space Community Series Presents: Creating Boundaries
When: Thursday, March 3, 6:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Free Space, 298 6th Avenue (between 2nd and 3rd Streets)
What: Do discussions at home turn into long heated arguments? Sharon Peters from Parents Helping Parents will lead a workshop to support parents with setting boundaries. Discussion to address both child and parents needs and roles.
How much: $5 donation, Tickets available here.

New Members’ Show at 440 Gallery
When: Exhibit runs through March 20.. Regular hours: Thursdays and Fridays, 4:00-7:00pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 11:00am-7:00pm.
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets
What: 440 Gallery presents the work of six new members of the Gallery. The exhibit is curated by veteran 440 Gallery artist Karen Gibbons. Works by new members Jo-Ann Acey, Eric Banks, Richard Barnet, Leigh Blanchard, Joy Makon, and Amy Weil.
