The Sinner Filming in Ditmas Park – A Massive Production?

The Sinner is filming in Ditmas Park this week, and you will not be able to miss it. They will be time traveling back, and filming scenes from 1997 and 2003, mostly in Ditmas Park West, with the set on Rugby between Dorchester and Ditmas. Variety has a good review of the series, if you want to find out more.

This is how The Sinners is being marketed, trailer at the link as well:

An eight episode close-ended series, The Sinner follows a young mother (Jessica Biel) who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the “who” or the “what” — but the “why” — as an investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past. The Sinner premieres summer 2017.

You will need to move your car by 10pm Wednesday, and just where to is not so obvious. To make it easier, here’s a map of streets they have reserved for Thursday and Friday:

Just for the fun of it, we added up the lengths of these blocks, per Google maps, and came up with 6,338 feet of street space. Now, with the exception of Coney Island Avenue, they have reserved both sides of the street for parking, so that brings the total street space reserved for this shoot to 9,297 or so feet. At 5,280 feet to a mile, that’s close to two miles of street parking, give or take.

  1. this is crazy the city should be making the the film company provide parking and shuttles to and from the lot! we contacted the community board here is there response

    Dear Mr. Price,
The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) does not request
approval from the Community Board in relation to film locations. We get
notification sometimes just 24 hours in advance. Upon occasion we can
request that an area be off limits for a period of time but we have to
submit a compelling reason (for instance, we have been granted a moratorium
on film permits on Church Avenue currently because there is a capital
project scheduled, which would conflict with film truck parking).

As offered, we will forward your complaints to MOME but request that you
provide us with the specific information as to location. The photo does not

You might also wish to raise the issue with your neighborhood association.
It is possible that a neighbor has her/his home listed for film shoots or is
the regular location for a character, which is why there is such frequent

  2. I got a second response and it seems they are moving the production team to a lot. the Article you posted really help make the case this was way over the top. 2 miles of parking gone from a neighborhood is a huge deal!!!!

    here is the response

    Dear Mr. Price –
I received the following communication from the production company per your emails yesterday:

Shawn, we just moments ago arranged with MOME that we will park the whole company in a private lot, so clearing only the picture area of Rugby Rd between Dorchester Rd – Ditmas Ave. Shoot dates are Thursday 6/8 and Friday 6/9.

Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention.
