EAST NEW YORK – Last night, a man was gunned down on an East New York street corner, just after dark, the neighborhood’s second murder of the year.

Around 9:30 pm on Thursday, June 28, police responded to a 911 call of an assault at the corner of Pitkin and Montauk Avenues. Arriving to the scene, they found an unresponsive 27-year old man lying on the pavement—shot in face, in the chest and in the arm.

Responding EMS transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, said police.

According to police, the victim was shot after getting into an argument with an unknown individual in a white luxury sedan, the Daily News reported.

This is just the second homicide of the year in a neighborhood once plagued with triple-digit homicide figures. It follows the April 22 shooting of Jahimel Gayle, which broke a record murder-free stretch for East New York in the beginning of 2018.
