Elderly Man Crashes Car Into Flatlands Home

FLATLANDS – An 85-year-old resident of East 53rd Street in Flatlands lost control of his Lexus as he was backing out of his driveway, causing him to strike a parked car and then crash into the railing and wall of a home across the street, police from the 63rd Precinct said.

The man, Vincent Moorehead, received minor injuries in the 12:30 p.m. crash that occurred at 1128 East 53rd Street off Avenue J. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say Moorehead didn’t have an explanation for the crash in which he struck a parked BMW in the driveway of a neighboring home and then, crashed into the metal railing of the stairway and into the garden.

“I just heard a big crash, came out and saw him sitting in the car,” said Juwan Brown who lives at the house where the car ended up. “The car he hit belongs to my stepdad. I don’t know how that could’ve happened.”

Firefighters were able to remove Moorehead from the car and place him in an ambulance. Emergency Service police were later able to remove the car from the railing.

No charges were filed against the driver pending further investigation.
