Each year, Green-Wood Cemetery hosts a great event to commemorate the Battle of Brooklyn, the first battle of the American Revolution to be waged after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which was fought in August 1776 on land that is now a part of the cemetery. It’s coming up this year on Sunday, August 26, with events starting at 10am.

A highlight of the family-friendly event is the Regimental Band of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, which will play during the Battle of Brooklyn Parade and also at the Commemorative Ceremony. Revolutionary War re-enactors round out the schedule of free events.

There is also a popular trolley tour in the morning, which is $15 for members of The Green-Wood Historic Fund, $20 for non-members, and reservations recommended. For more info and to make reservations, visit the Green-Wood site.
