The Free Wingate Concert Series Is Back Tomorrow

EAST FLATBUSH – The free and popular Wingate Concert Series is back in Brooklyn for the next two weeks with five events.

The series is hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and will take place at Wingate Park (opposite Kings County Hospital). Gates open at 6 p.m. and the shows start at 7 p.m.

The Wingate Concert Series kicks off on Tuesday, July 9 honoring Monica and Queen Naija. It will feature BJ the Chicago Kid and DJ Funk Flex.

On Wednesday, July 10th, Angie Stone and Al B. Sure will be honored with host Jeff Redd. Guests will include R&B Revue, Force MD’s, and Horace Brown.

On Tuesday, July 16th, Baby Cham, Third World, and Spragga Benz will be honored. Guests will include Noah Powa. It will be hosted by Leon and Dahved Levy and will salute Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Gregory Isaacs.

The following night of July 17th will feature Avant, PJ Morton, and Raheem Devaughn. Thursday, July 18th will be the three-year anniversary celebration of Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell. It will feature several guests including William McDowell, Le’Andria Johnson, Jonathan McReynolds, Kierra Sheard, Travis Greene, Bebe Winans, and Anthony Brown.

In 2017, the plug was almost pulled on the series, formerly known as the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field, following a lawsuit against the non-profit concert organizers for unpaid credit card fees. Borough President Adams stepped in and has continued hosting the event ever since.

“Summertime in Brooklyn is celebrated with backyard barbecues, trips to the beach, and incredible live music,” Adams told Bklyner. “The 2019 Wingate Concert Series is a continuation of that beloved tradition in Wingate Park, where millions of great memories have been made.”

“I thank Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment, Make Music New York and the many sponsors and partners that make these shows such a success for the tens of thousands of fans who attend from across our borough and beyond,” he continued. “Spread the word: Free summer entertainment is back in Central Brooklyn in a big way!”
