WILLIAMSBURG – Permits filed with the Department of Buildings this week are clearing the way for the demolition of the warehouse on Wythe Avenue, which usually signifies the first step in some serious development.

The roughly 55,000 square-foot warehouse sits at 85 Wythe, between North 10th and 11th Streets. A demolition permit was filed Wednesday, February 27, by developer Cayuga Capital, the Greenpoint Post reported.

Cayuga bought the building a few years ago, letting tenants Colossal Media, who specialize in murals and advertisements, finish out the balance of their lease. “We love what they do and would love to keep them as a tenant,” Mr. Wiseman told Crain’s a few years ago.

Now it seems the time has come for Cayuga to join the site with the rest of its holdings along Wythe, making way for a possible 125 foot tall, nearly 123,00 square-foot retail and office building rising 9 stories above the block.

The site is between McCarren Park and the Bushwick Inlet Park, sharing streets with popular Williamsburg locations like Kinfolk 90 and Brooklyn Bowl. The area is accessible with a short walk from either the Nassau G or the Bedford L, or along the B32 bus.

The giant mural written on the roof of the building nearby sums up the demolish-and-develop rush near the industrial waterfront rather succinctly: “Signs of Our Times”
